Your guide to Canfield Solitaire

Make Canfield Solitaire your next activity in the game library. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

One thing to notice as you play

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Make the next step deliberately.

Your objective

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

From the start of a round

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

How to use the controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A closer look at one example

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Notice the change in the playing area.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
