Russian Solitaire: learn through an example

Bring your attention to one round of Russian Solitaire. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Yukon-style deal, same-suit building, no stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Take a closer look while playing

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.

What you are aiming for

Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Start with a deliberate move.

The playing sequence

  1. Move any face-up card and its tail onto the next higher rank of the same suit. Kings fill empty columns.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Keyboard and screen controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A closer look at one example

A heart 6 fits a heart 7, not a spade 7. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the game’s format in mind.

One detail worth checking

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Check the rule before repeating the action. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
